Mechanical Breakdown Insurance

What Does Mechanical Breakdown Insurance (MBI) Do?

Mechanical Breakdown Insurance (MBI) covers repairs to the vehicle’s mechanical parts for your vehicle that are not related to an accident. MBI covers used or lease vehicles and must be purchased within certain requirements (i.e. time or mileage).

Common exceptions to coverage in this type of insurance are repairs that are required by:

  • Improper maintenance
  • Regular wear and tear
  • Intentional damage
  • Misuse of your vehicle
  • Corrosion

Note that regular maintenance (i.e. oil change, tune-ups, etc.) is not covered by MBI.

Is Mechanical Breakdown Insurance Mandatory?

No, this is not a requirement to have.

What Happens If I Don’t Have Mechanical Breakdown Insurance?

You will have to pay for all mechanical damage to your vehicles out of pocket.
